Benefits of Anti Aging Vitamin E
93I'm Not Really A Doctor, I Just Play One on HubPages
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm putting the caution upfront before telling you about anti aging vitamin E:
TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE PUTTING YOURSELF ON THIS OR ANY HEALTH REGIME!
Anything you put into your body has some kind of consequence to you physically. Please don't assume that because we're talking about a vitamin here, that there is no risk.
NEVER take enormous amounts of Vitamin E! Vitamin toxicity can kick in at a couple of thousand IU's a day. Be aware that even doses of 400 IU's daily can be dangerous for those with blood disorders, as Vitamin E can cause a thinning of the blood, and is an anti-coagulant.
There, that's my disclaimer. On with the article. Thank-you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vitamin E is the super hero of vitamins. It not only keeps you healthy, it tunes up certain areas of your body, infusing them with a vital countenance. If you're raising an eyebrow in doubt, perhaps this article will convince you. Read on to discover the wondrous Anti Aging Vitamin E.
Powdered Vitamin Supplements
Super Hero Protection
If you do nothing else to prevent disease and free radical invasion of your body, take Vitamin E . Also known as alpha tocopherol, it brings and preserves more youth to your physical body. The following issues fall under the protective shield of this super supplement.
Arteries
Artery hardening and clogging starts early in life, and worsens as we age. Free radicals attack and oxidate bad cholesterol in the blood, unleashing its toxic rancidity to infiltrate the artery walls. Vitamin E stops this process and puts a halt to the LDL cholesterol module to block and reduce oxidation, shrinking plaque and making arteries a little clearer as it does . 400 to 800 IU per day is said to be the ideal amount for benefits to this area of your body.
Heart
Until 2004, Vitamin E was said to suppress heart attacks. That statement was proven during studies at Harvard University, though it didn't profess to happen instantly. It required a consistent regime of 100 to 250 IU for a couple of years to realize the full benefits. A meta study in 2004 revealed that the first claim of heart attack and stroke prevention was untrue. You can decide for yourself.
Immunity
Everyone's immune system declines with age, but it needn't. According to tests performed at Tuft's University, anti-aging Vitamin E's ability to block free radical oxidation gives a dramatically youthful boost to immunity responses in some people. While not every person in the study benefited, the ones that responded did so dramatically. White blood cell counts jumped significantly in as little as 30 days with a daily dose of 400 to 800 IU's.
Cancer
Studies have shown that Vitamin E inhibits the growth of cancer cells. Low levels of this vitamin in the blood equates to a higher susceptibility to cancer. Knowing that this vitamin can help is exciting!
Arthritis
Mega doses of Vitamin E can relieve the pain, swelling and stiffness of arthritic joints. It has been shown that up to 1,200 milligrams per day can bolster the low levels typically found in people with rheumatoid arthritis. It has been speculated that the higher dose is necessary because much of the vitamin is used to combat and ease existing free radical damage to the joints. *** If you didn't read the disclaimer at the start of this hub, please go back and do so now ***
Cataracts
Although not as powerfully as vitamin C, Vitamin E supplements can reduce the risk of cataracts, and do some damage control if the condition already exists.
Brain & Blood
What says youth better than good brain function and blood flow? A 100-400 IU dose of anti agingVitamin E daily is recommended for increased blood circulation to the body and the brain.
*** Additional Information ***
Vitamin E is extremely important when it comes to omega 3 fats. As the primary fat-soluble antioxidant, it keeps omega 3's from oxidating. This is a very good thing. Without the vitamin E, oxidation of omega 3 releases free radicals. Vitamin E to the rescue, again!
Thanks so much to Vitaman249 for letting me know about this important fact!
Food Sources vs Supplements
If we go back to the super hero analogy, anti aging Vitamin E is the powerful protector from harm in supplement form. Sources derived from food is the sidekick in infancy. Still good for you, but not much power.
You would have to eat 28 cups of peanuts or drink 2 quarts of corn oil in order to get the 400 IU's of a daily supplement. Regular multi-vitamins typically contain around 30 IU's, so go for a separate supplement of at least 100 IU's. Take 400 IU's for blocking oxidation and boosting immunity.
It is recommended that you split the dosage up, i.e. take two smaller ones twice a day, and always take them at mealtime.
And in conclusion....
Are you still doubtful about the benefits of Anti Aging Vitamin E? There's only one way to know for sure - try it yourself.

PS. T.U. :D
Shirley, the anti-oxidant properties of Vitamin E in all forms is responsible for the good effects that you mention in your article. It depletes and ties up the free radicals (the bad guys) floating around in the blood and interstitial fluids. Bob
Great hub, I'm a big believer in Vitamin E's benefits to our systems! The Amazon ad on this column shows softgels version of Vitamin E. Many nutritionists, scientists, state that the softgels are a waste of money. Vitamin E in it's dry form, 400 i.u. a day, are the best form to take. Sadly, drugstore and grocery chains don't really mind, at all, taking your money by selling those softgels. The dry form usually only available at health food stores or pharmacies very interested in selling credible products.
Hi Shirley,
This information is very exciting, especially in the cases of chronic diseases such as cancer, arthritis and the heart. I take my vitamins in a liquid form. They come in a powder and the instructions are to mix one serving with one ounce of water. I hope this is considered powder as spoken about in an earlier comment and I'm getting a good product.
Thanks for pointing out how a person needs to be careful about taking large doses of anything. I know, myself, that if a little is good, a lot must be better. right? Not always so. Overdoese can happen even when it's "all natural", so checking with a professional is great advice.

A great place to get your E from food is a handful of almonds each day. I take a little snack pack baggie with about 12 almonds and nibble over several hours. These almonds contain the "good fats" like guacamole and salmon.
Hi Shirley.
I'm sitting here thinking about what the last sentence under Immunity says, "White blood cell counts jumped significantly in as little as 30 days with a daily dose of 400 to 800 IU's."
I do not take extra vit. E, just what's in multi vit. which I'm great for skipping frequently. LOL I do love almonds, walnuts and sunflower seeds which I love to snack on.
I'm looking at my recent medical record which my doctor commented "your white blood cells and platelets are both elevated" .
I just never know when to take what vitamin and with what at what time or where. Taking vitamins is so confusing to me and that's why I have been so very inconsistent with taking them.
So what would Dr. Hubpage Anderson have to say about this? LOL, you are so dam funny!!!!!
Thanx doctor Anderson for this advice!:) I think anymore anti-aging tips i get will start giving me a baby face!! lol!!
Seriously, I now know i need more vitamin E and will take on board all above tips u mentioned and comments!
Great hub Shirley! I have found Vitamin E to be great for scars also...just rub the vitamin E gel on the scar and it helps fade over time...
Hooray for Dr. Anderson-- well researched and well presented--now I'm off to buy some almonds and guacamole--yum!
Interesting and informative. However, I'll pass on popping pills, and mature like a fine wine and crumbly cheese without the supplements, LOL
One ounce of almonds officially gives 35% of daily recommended amount of Vitamin E...so, what's the "recommended amount" I guess that would be 3 ounces of almonds per day to get full 'dosage' which wouldn't need if it's already in your multi-vitamin. Good news is, the almonds provide loads of fiber that a supplement never will. So chop some up for your breakfast oatmeal, to sprinkle in evening's salad or on top of asparagus or broccoli, then munch on one ounce throughout the day...you're set!
We're all going to be so healthy we'll live hundreds of years -- all green and wrinkled. LOL valuable info on Vit E...thank you!!!
I firmly believe in Vitamin E. Thanks for the hub; lots of helpful comments and tips.
Good info!Very useful.
Shirley, if I have the organs LOL of a 10 yr. old then I could live to be the oldest human being on the face of this earth. I did the math! (approx. 400 yrs. old!).
thanks for nice knowledge of Vitamins, I take daily Nutrilite Daily (Multi Vitamin tablets)
thanks
i just need to smile after shirley's comment to dottie... so...

Great intro to every vitamin E :). I love your opening line, I am not a doctor, I just play one at HubPages.
Great info artickle. Vitamin E IS REALLY great... Just little suggestion, if you do not mind:Combination of ALL vitamins and minerals is the best. Minerals are EXTREMELY IMPORTANT for tissues / cells building®eneration... Thanks.
Vitamin E is good in small quantities. No doubt.
Enjoyed reading this article, and its interesting, I have developed a craving for almonds, just love them and eat them often... could be the vitamin E content that my body craves. I believe in good self care, which to me involves knowing how to take vitamins to support the body- most of us do not eat perfect diets. Didn't know vitamin E is good for the heart... thanks for the info!
I have been a believer of Vitamin E for over 25 years and I never exceed the recommended daily intake. Also every now and then I take a break from the supplement because I eat pretty healthy. Your Hub is very informative.
Yes Ms Shirley Anderson, the Doctor of vita-E! so Vitamin E is the secret of your energy and vitality. Doctors recommend E for good skin, which of course was not sufficient reason to think of vitamin E, but you have sent it to heart's palpitations. Thanks
This is great information, Shirley. Superb! :)
Hello shirley, you have wonderful content! We have similar ideas, it is great learning from the pros! I really enjoyed your info.
I'm a fan of Vitamin E as well and enjoyed reading your discussion here Shirley. Thank you for thoughtful and useful hub.
Now this is excellent info on preserving your health. I'd say that vitamin C is Superhero E's sidekick against the criminal elements known as disease and sickness.
thanks for the great info. I am nor a doctor either, but I heard that Omega-3 works best with vitamin E. I think you should mention that in your article.
I certainly need these.
I take 400 IU of Vitamin E daily. Vitamin E taken together with vitamin C can also help protect against Alzheimer.
Hi Shirley!
Another really interesting hub.
But isn't it hard these days to know what is good for you. Here you say, probably from reliable sources, that vit E can actually reduce the risk of cancer. On Sky News this year, I heard it actually causes it.
What do we believe?
But I have to tell you -- I live on cigarettes and coffee, and am never ill. And I'm not as young as I look ...
Yeah, I suppose genetic make up plays the most important role.
Good hub!
All the best,
Camlo
useful topic .
Anti Aging is just a marketing term. People who eat healthy foods, exercise, and avoid toxic exposure simply look better than other people of their own age. You could add a simple list of high vitamin e foods like almonds as a source. It's unfortunate but because of Pharmaceutical company greed we have no real standards for vitamin purity and let the industry self regulate. While this keeps costs down it also allows a lot of junk product on the marketplace. AC Grace "Unique E" is the best manufacturer of Synthetic Vitamin E.
The real problem with Vitamin Supplementation is determining if one is really deficient. Unfortunately our Medical Schools teach Doctors next to nothing about Vitamin Supplementation. Unless you find a Doctor who is self interested in Vitamins you'll likely get little help from the Medical Community. Kind of a sick catch 22.
Shirley,
Great information. I've learned a lot.

Vitamin has an anticoagulant effects & adult should not consume more than 1000 milligrams each day
This will be a vitamin that will be in high demand through the next decade because those who are able to get good health care are living longer and experiencing youthfulness.
I like your hub. Thanks :)
I have made a thumbs up for your hub
Very nice and detailed hub. Cancer is such a downer. I didn't know that Vitamin E helps combat that. Thanks for the share, Shirley.
